Short answer: No. Emma Stone was born Emily Jean Stone and raised Lutheran, and her documented ancestry is Swedish, German, English, Scottish and Irish. No reputable source documents Jewish parentage, ancestry, or a conversion. The question mostly comes from her role as a Jewish convert on the Showtime series The Curse.

- Family. She was born Emily Jean Stone to Jeffrey Charles Stone, described by Wikipedia as "the founder and CEO of a general-contracting company," and Krista Jean Stone (née Yeager), "a homemaker."
- The surname is Swedish, not Jewish. Her paternal grandfather, Conrad Ostberg Sten, "was from a Swedish family that anglicized their surname to 'Stone'." She also has German, English, Scottish, and Irish ancestry. No Jewish ancestry is documented anywhere.
- Raised Lutheran (January 31, 2024). Asked by Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air what religion she was exposed to, Stone answered: "Lutheran. We were Lutheran." She described it as "not super dogmatic" and as "kind of diet Catholic or Catholic lite," per the NPR transcript.
- Religion did not stick. In the same interview she said, "I have great respect for religion and I find theology really fascinating," but added, "I very early on realized that religion didn't resonate for me." She described the relationship she was left with as "more of a guilt and a sort of self-judgment."
- Schooling. She attended Sequoya Elementary and Cocopah Middle School, then Xavier College Preparatory, "an all-girl Catholic high school," as a freshman, "but dropped out after one semester" before moving to Los Angeles and being homeschooled. She confirmed the Catholic school herself on NPR.

Hey Alma credited her with "an incredible job with Hebrew pronunciation" and described the series as building "a hyper-specific and nuanced Jewish tension: the discomfort people who are born Jewish feel when Jews by choice know more about Jewish tradition than they do." The Forward also covered the show's Jewish themes. All of it is about the character. None of it is about the actor.
Two smaller things feed the question. The surname "Stone" reads to many people as an Americanized Jewish name in the family of Stein or Steinberg, when the documented origin is the Swedish "Sten." And from 2011 to 2015 she dated her Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield, who has a Jewish father and Jewish paternal grandparents of Polish, Russian and Romanian descent, grew up secular, and has said, "I identify more as Jewish than anything." A partner's background is not a person's background. One more red herring worth naming: a page at the Jewish Women's Archive titled "Actress Emma Stone" is simply a public-domain photo file attached to a blog post about high school rumor mills and teenage sexuality. It makes no claim about her religion at all.
Emma Stone and Israel
On September 8, 2025, the group Film Workers for Palestine published a pledge whose signers commit "not to screen films, appear at or otherwise work with Israeli film institutions" they deem "implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people," language that is the pledge's own, not ours. Stone's name was reported among the signatories by September 10, 2025, when JTA and The Forward noted the list had passed 3,000 names. The pledge targets institutions rather than individuals, and Snopes rated False the viral claim that signers pledged not to work with Jewish people. Israeli industry figures pushed back hard, calling the boycott "profoundly misguided," and a September 25, 2025 counter-letter signed by more than 1,200 entertainment figures rejected it.
