- Early 1980s to 1990s, his childhood: Ek's father left the family when Ek was a baby, and his stepfather worked in IT, according to Steven Bertoni's 2012 Forbes profile. The same piece reports that his mother's parents were an opera singer and a jazz pianist, and describes Rågsved as a rough neighborhood known to locals as "Drugsved." Nowhere does the profile mention Ek's religion or ethnicity.

The third is more recent. Since June 2025, activist campaigns have tried to link Ek to Israel through his investment in the defense company Helsing, and that association has pulled his name into charged conversations where assumptions about identity get made quickly. The link itself does not hold up, and the identity assumption behind it never had a source to begin with. Ek has never described himself as Jewish, and no reporting places Jewish ancestry anywhere in his family.

Ek has made no public statement about Israel, Zionism, or Gaza that appears in any verifiable source.
